
Isabel McAllister
Chief Sustainability Officer, First Bus
Isabel is Chief Sustainability Officer at First Bus. Prior to that, she was a Director at Mace, responsible for delivery of corporate objectives, sustainability legal compliance and construction assurance, and sustainability consultancy services in the UK and overseas. In 2012, Isabel developed a group wide sustainability strategy and a range of demanding targets. These targets were all achieved as planned, and she also lead the delivery of 2020 sustainability and corporate responsibility ambitions for the Group.
Isabel also helped set up the Mace Foundation in 2012, and has been a Trustee since that time. The Foundation is a charitable company that empowers more than 5000 Mace people to enhance and create opportunities in the communities where Mace works.
Before joining Mace, Isabel gained 15 years’ experience in sustainable property and construction and worked with a range of clients including CLG, British Land, Crown Estate, Tesco, GlaxoSmithKline, Hertfordshire County Council, HSBC, Olympic Delivery Authority and Wates Group.
Isabel has dedicated her career to delivering commercially viable sustainable buildings and programmes. She is recognised for her ability to help businesses progress their sustainability programmes and projects by facilitating diverse stakeholder groups and helping them to agree common targets, strategies or outcomes. A skilled communicator, she is able to successfully convey technical and other information to a range of audiences. She ensures that strategies can accommodate and are ahead of legislative change, that they deliver whole life benefits and that they readily provide engagement hooks.
Isabel has co-authored a number of influential green buildings publications. She is also active on a number of awards judging panels and sits on the advisory board for Green Sky Thinking, part of Open-City. She was recognised for her achievements in 2013, when she won the Women in Construction Green Leadership award.
