23 September, 2024

We are incredibly saddened by the loss of our fellow DivAirCity consortium member, Angela Augusti, who passed away last night after a brief, fast and terribly devastating illness.

Angela worked for CNR (National Research Council of Italy) and was leading a team within EU Horizon 2020 project, DivAirCity, studying the role of vegetation and trees in urban environments, as a means to improve air quality, reduce pollutants, mitigate heat islands and improve human health.

Over her career, Angela’s scientific research has contributed to our knowledge in photosynthesis studies and adaptation and acclimation of plants to environmental stresses. She was a specialist in studies using stable isotopes, ecological studies and global change. In recent years Angela was involved in Polar studies within the Terrestrial Flagship Program at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, Norway, to understand the structure and functioning of High-Arctic ecosystems and the profound impacts of them on environmental change. She was a leading and outstanding scientist in polar ecology, studying terrestrial, freshwater, glacial and marine ecosystems.

Angela was smart, humble and full of joy, passion and energy, having a profound impact on anyone who met her. She will be dearly missed and our heartfelt condolences and thoughts are with her family and friends.
